2010 Professional Development Report

2010 Professional Development Survey Responses by
Intermediate Unit
During the month of April, AEC collected survey data from arts educators in the region to better understand how the organization can continue to meet their needs and interests relative to professional development programming. This time around, 407 educators and administrators participated in order to provide us with this critical information - a 138% increase from 2008 to 2010! At a 34% response rate, this was our largest return yet. We wanted to say a big “thanks” to all of these folks for their assistance. We truly could not do what we do without your help.
Here is how the demographic information breaks down: educators from IU 1 (Washington, Greene, & Fayette counties), IU 2 (Pittsburgh Public Schools and Diocese of Pittsburgh), IU 3 (Allegheny county), IU 7 (Westmoreland county), and IU 27 (Beaver Valley) all took part in the survey. IU 3 had the highest number of respondents with 35%, followed by IU 2 with 21% and then IU 1 with 20%. Overall, more then 70 school districts and private/charter schools were represented from southwestern Pennsylvania.
At the present time, the staff of the AEC is analyzing this information and writing a report that will include recommendations based on the findings. Once this report is completed, we will be distributing it to school leaders as well as arts and cultural organizations as a reference for designing and implementing high quality professional development opportunities for arts educators.
