Brief Description:Morning (9:00 to 11:30 AM)
The Warhol Museum
Through gallery talks and activities, participants will compare and contrast the formal aspects of Warholʼs portraits (e.g., his use of color and shape, each artworkʼs overall balance and unity, and the sitterʼs pose). During the studio component, teachers will learn about Warholʼs photographic silkscreen printing process, and then create their own “pop” portrait in the style of Andy Warhol.
Travel to Mattress Factory & Lunch (11:30 AM-12: 30 PM)
Afternoon (12:30 to 3:00 PM)
The Mattress Factory
Participants will study contemporary artistsʼ interpretations of portraiture within the Mattress Factoryʼs current exhibition, Likeness and new permanent installation, It's All About ME Not You, by Greer Lankton. Time will be spent in the MF Studio to explore nontraditional materials to create self-portraits. The day will conclude with a critique and discussion on how to extrapolate both museum experiences into lessons for the classroom.
