Hosting the Awards allows each community to spotlight its creative community while the marquis event – the Awards ceremony – brings national attention to the Commonwealth’s creative community. The Awards ceremony recognizes outstanding achievement in the arts, arts education, arts advocacy, arts as community revitalization tool, and arts patronage. Allegheny Intermediate Unit Apprenticeship Program -

Allegheny Intermediate Unit and various other organizations including Point Park University, Dance Alloy Theater, Duquesne University School of Music, Society for Contemporary Craft

The AIU Apprenticeship Program provides career exploration experiences to high school students in the arts, humanities or sciences. It brings students together to work with a master instructor in areas ordinarily available only to those pursuing specialized professional instruction at the college level. Each apprenticeship consists of half-day or daylong experiences over a six or seven month period during the school year. Students experience hands-on, behind-the-scenes activities and are given the opportunity to make connections with organizations and people who can help them as they pursue their career choices. Student Side-By-Side Concert - 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra holds its annual Student Side-By-Side event each spring at Heinz Hall. This event gives aspiring young musicians the unique opportunity to rehearse and perform “Side-By-Side” their Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra counterparts on the Heinz Hall stage. The Side-By-Side concert is combined with another project for high school audiences: the Audience of the Future program. Participants are selected for the Side-By-Side event based on responses from their completed applications, with particular emphasis placed on the recommendation section. Due to increased interest in this event, students may also be asked to audition. Painting En Plein Aire unites a rich diversity of styles under one common theme: truth to nature. In this master class, we’ll venture outdoors to re-learn how to see for more "honest" painting and deeper engagement with nature. Learn tips and techniques like pre-mixing mass colors to render changing light, forgetting what you "know" to see the subject as simple shapes and other insights from Ron Donoughe.
