Promethean Boards

by dboersma » Tue Jun 29, 2010 1:44 PM

I recently attended a Promethean Board training class at Moon Area. However, when searching for lessons plans that use this new technology, I was at a loss. We were told to use Promethean Planet to search for flip-charts that were made by other teachers. I'm sorry to
say but the Arts wasn't very well represented.

So... I was wondering about the needs of other art teachers in the area. Are they required to use Promethean Boards in their classrooms? How do they feel about using this technology? Can they recommend other resources other than Promethean Planet for lesson ideas using the Promethean Board?

Thanks!

Although I’m unaware of the requirement to use Promethean board technology, I know art teachers are having great success integrating interactive boards in the art classroom. Great ideas for technology integration in the art room may be found at Art Education 2.0: Using New Technologies in Art Classrooms (http://arted20.ning.com). Take a look under the tab “Teaching Art with Smart Technology.” You will find numerous discussion threads offering a wide range of teaching applications. In addition, an elementary art teacher from Dryden Elementary School, Tricia Fuglestad, is gaining national recognition with her creative use of interactive technology. You may access her wiki at http://artisinteractive.wikispaces.com/Artisinteractive. Tricia also has a site featuring technology-learning demonstrations at http://web.me.com/fuglefun/E-Learning/IWB.html.

I frequently use the Promethean Board in class. It is a great tool for the study and critique of a work of art. The Promethean has a power point converter which will (with one click of a button) create interactive slides from a simple power point presentation. This allows you and the students to draw and highlight freely on sample works of art.
