CORNELIA
A. DAVIS, Ph.D.
Dr. Cornelia Davis, in her current role as the Pittsburgh Board
of Public Education's Program Officer for the Arts and Humanities,
oversees the District's instruction in Visual Arts, Instrumental
Music, Vocal Music, Theatre, Dance and Creative Writing. She
leads nearly 300 faculty members in 90 schools as they provide arts
education for Pittsburgh Public School students.
Dr. Davis joined the District in the fall of 2000. She is
an experienced educator who has served in leadership roles in the
arts, international education, college admissions, and community/university-based
arts education administration. Prior to her work with Pittsburgh
Public Schools, Dr. Davis's leadership experiences included: Director
of Intergenerational Arts and Education Programs at the University
of Pittsburgh's Center for Social and Urban Research; Director of
International Programs for the Education Management Corporation;
and Arts Education consultant for the U.S. Department of State in
the network of American schools in Europe. She has 15 years'
experience as an elementary and secondary-level visual arts teacher
in the U.S., Mexico, and Spain.
Dr. Davis earned a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in Administration
and Policy Studies/Curriculum and Supervision, a MFA in Ceramics
from George Washington University, and a BS in Art Education from
Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
